Robert H.

Robert is a very pleasant gentleman who was a patient at Vibra Hospital of Fort Wayne earlier in 2017 following bypass surgery.  On 10/24/17, he was admitted to an acute hospital with osteomyelitis in his right foot.  He underwent revision of his transmetatarsal amputation and suffered acute respiratory failure due to opioids.  He was then admitted to Vibra Hospital once again for continued wound care and intravenous antibiotics.

When Robert arrived at Vibra, he could transfer with contact guard assistance but could not ambulate.  He also needed total assistance with most activities of daily living.  He was very cooperative with therapy and worked hard to regain his independence.  His goal was to be able to return home with his daughter, and his biggest obstacle was the three steps he would have to ascend to enter.

Robert made excellent progress, and after his antibiotics were finished, he was able to discharge to home with his daughter.  He was independent or needed set-up help with most daily activities, and he could ambulate 20 feet with a walker and stand-by assistance.  Most importantly, he could ascend the steps to enter the home.

When Robert was asked about his stay at Vibra, he replied, “You guys do a great job.  I wouldn’t have come back here if you didn’t.”
