Dr. Virginia Banks to Receive Watanakunakorn Clinician Award
Dr. Virginia Banks, an infectious diseases consulting physician at Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley, was recently recognized by the Board of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) for her outstanding accomplishments in the clinical practice of infectious diseases. She has been selected as the 2019 Watanakunakorn Clinician Award recipient.
Named to honor the memory of Chatrchai Watanakunakorn, the Watanakunakorn Clinician Award is presented annually to an IDSA member who spends at least seventy-five percent of his or her time in direct patient care. Furthermore, the recipient must demonstrate their commitment to the field through excellence in clinical care, patient or community education, patient advocacy, general community service, and service to a national or state infectious diseases society.
Prior to joining Vibra Hospital, Banks served 15 years as the director of infectious disease for University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Horizon Campus, Hermitage, Pennsylvania. During her tenure there she was named the 2015 Outstanding Physician of the Year.
Having been in practice for over 40 years, Dr. Banks has impacted the lives of countless patients. “I’ve been taking care of infectious disease patients for a very long time,” Banks says. “I’ve held numerous leadership positions, served as a member on many committees of the Infectious Diseases Society, and talked with many medical students and residents.”
Dr. Banks will be recognized and receive her award at the IDSA’s IDWeek meeting in October.Posted By
