Before falling ill, Terri Taylor lived a normal life. She was very independent and cared for her grandchildren from her home. But when Terri's illness led to respiratory failure, she was placed on a ventilator. In the blink of an eye, she went from total independence to total dependence.
To regain that independence, Terri came to Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley. In addition to being on a ventilator, Terri arrived unable to sit, stand, walk, or talk. Terri's interdisciplinary care team got to work immediately. Within weeks, the team liberated her from the ventilator. Now breathing on her own, Terri's progress in therapy accelerated. Soon she was sitting herself up at the edge of the bed, standing -- and starting to walk again.
Terri was well on her way to becoming functionally independent again.
Continuing to regain her strength, Terri reached the point where she could progress to a lower level of care. Now able to tolerate three hours of therapy each day, Terri discharged to a rehabilitation hospital. Her goal is to return home and once again care for her beloved grandchildren.Posted By
