Gloria Montoya didn't plan on spending Christmas in the hospital. The plan was to spend a nice holiday in Colorado with her son and brother. Unfortunately while there, Gloria suffered a stroke.
Despite the circumstances, Gloria arrived at Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital of Denver determined to return home. Gloria began her road to recovery without the use of her left arm. She was unable to get out of bed, walk, or perform any self-care activities. To restore her independence, Gloria participated in intensive physical, occupational and speech therapies.
Gloria was no stranger to intensive rehabilitation. Several decades ago, she encountered similar hurdles when diagnosed with Guillan-Barre Syndrome (GBS). Having conquered GBS, Gloria approached her recovery with optimism.
“I didn’t let Guillain-Barre get me down," Gloria recalled. "I’m not going to let this get me down either.”
Gloria's motivation and fighting spirit were evident over the next few weeks. Working hard in therapy, Gloria regained full use of her left arm. She began walking and going up-and-down the stairs. Her progress was significant.
Having regained her independence, Gloria returned home with her family. She looks forward to more trips with her loved ones, and the adventures waiting on the horizon.Posted By
