It's been two years since doctors diagnosed John Huff with Parkinson's disease. "My father had Parkinson's," he recalled. John regularly sees his neurologist for routine treatment. But John wanted to be more proactive in battling the symptoms and progression of his Parkinson's. He decided to participate in the LSVT BIG program offered at Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital.
LSVT BIG is a specialized, intensive, physical therapy exercise program. The program is uniquely designed for people living with Parkinson's disease. LSVT BIG is administered by physical and occupational therapists over 16 sessions spanning four weeks. The program's goal is to improve functional mobility. It specifically focuses on faster walking speeds, bigger steps, and improved balance. LSVT BIG has proven more effective than conventional therapy for those living with Parkinson's.
John completed the program at Gateway, successfully improving his mobility. "Therapy at Gateway has helped with my confidence," he noted. "My occupational therapist taught me different procedures and exercises to do at home." John plans to continue what he learned at home, in addition to routine visits to his local gym.Posted By
