When Robert Adams found himself in the hospital, it was new territory for him. Robert suffered pneumonia, which soon resulted in respiratory failure.
Previously independent, Robert now required the support of a ventilator to breathe. Additionally, he couldn't leave his bed.
To wean from the ventilator and restore his independence, Robert admitted to Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley.
At Vibra, Robert underwent extensive treatment to wean from the ventilator. In addition, Vibra's therapy team worked with Robert to improve his strength and mobility.
Robert weaned from the ventilator and began working with speech therapy. Soon, Robert was talking again and could swallow hard foods. Out of bed, he could walk over 300 feet at the time of discharge.
"The staff here were wonderful," Robert said. "They pushed me every day, even when I didn't feel like working. Yet, at the same time, they were very patient with me and helped me through the difficult times. I am so glad I came here! Everybody was excellent, from the nursing staff to the therapists."
Now able to tolerate three hours per day of intense therapy, Robert discharged to a rehabilitation hospital. His next goal: returning home.Posted By
