Richard and his wife live in Florida, but vacation at their summer home in Minnesota.
Richard admitted to Sanford Hospital Fargo with an acute diagnosis of multiple brain abscesses following an episode of aseptic meningitis. He then admitted in to the intensive care unit.
Due to the abscesses, Richard developed acute respiratory failure. He was placed on a ventilator to assist with his breathing. He also had a tracheostomy and a peg tube placed in his abdomen to assist with nutritional support. Due the abscess in his brain, Richard also developed lower extremity paraplegia.
After several weeks, Richard was clinically stable and transferred to Vibra Hospital of Fargo. Here, he would continue with his medical care and rehabilitation. While at Vibra, Richard weaned from the ventilator and completed his antibiotics. He also participated with physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Richard was able to discharge to a local skilled nursing facility after a month at Vibra. There, he continued with physical and occupational therapy. Finally, Richard discharged home in time to spend Christmas with his family.
Richard and his wife Vicky returned to their summer home in Minnesota this summer. They wanted to stop by Vibra to meet and talk with the staff that cared for him. They shared with us his remarkable progress, expressed their gratitude for the wonderful care that Richard received.
“I feel Vibra is good people and I received good treatment," said Richard. "I would recommend them ”
