Thomas Gibson was a very independent young man, living a very active lifestyle. But, in the blink of an eye, he developed a severe condition known as Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Thomas became completely debilitated, bed bound and on a ventilator.
That's how Thomas arrived at Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley - Trumbull Campus. Right away, his interdisciplinary care team got to work. Respiratory therapy weaned Thomas off the ventilator, helping him to breathe on his own. Physical and occupational therapies helped Thomas not only get out of bed, but walk again. Upon discharge, Thomas was walking up-and-down the hallways without any assistive device.
Elated to have his independence restored, Thomas cried tears of joy the first time he could shower on his own. "Everyone here was so wonderful," Thomas stated. "There was a time that I didn’t think I would ever be normal again, especially as young as I am. There were days I had no hope. But they gave me hope, and pushed me, and helped me realize that I could get back on my feet again. The people here are truly a miracle. Thank you!”Posted By
