On March 6th, Stephen Gallichio was on his way home from his doctor's office. Suddenly, he went into cardiac arrest.
Stephen spent several weeks in acute care. Then, he transferred to Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital for acute rehabilitation.
When he first admitted to Gateway he was dependent with transfers. He also struggled with memory and cognitive issues. Working closely with his interdisciplinary team, Stephen made great progress.
After approximately a month at Gateway, Stephen discharged home. He progressed to a moderately independent level and could ambulate with a walker. Stephen received in-home physical therapy upon his return home, and now walks without an assistive device.
Stephen states he doesn't know how his experience at Gateway could have possibly been better. He notes that all the staff were professional and really care about their patients. They really went above and beyond, according to Stephen. He even felt the food was really good, too!Posted By
