In early January, Elizabeth contracted a serious infection that spread throughout her body. She was treated at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center for septic shock. For Elizabeth, the sepsis caused acute respiratory failure which left her dependent on ventilatory support. Once stabilized, Elizabeth was admitted to Vibra Hospital of Boise for prolonged antibiotic therapy, ventilator weaning, and extensive therapy for strengthening and relearning of how to care for herself.

Before being admitted to Vibra Hospital, Elizabeth was understandably confused. Part of sepsis is the lack of blood flow to her brain making her disoriented and unable to remember details. Elizabeth states that she was extremely “out of it” and did not know what had led up to her stay with Vibra Hospital. Mike, Elizabeth’s fiancé, filled in the details. Elizabeth had numerous complications, which included heart and lung issues leading to five major surgeries. Mike was told by physicians that Elizabeth was lucky to be alive.

During Elizabeth’s stay at Vibra Hospital, she was weaned from the ventilator and decannulated. She was kept very active by Rehabilitation Therapy Services. She liked to mess and tease with the team, especially Darian. She thought the food was great and the care she received; from the Physicians, Nurses, CNA’s, and Therapy staff, was exceptional. Mike said everyone was astounded by Elizabeth’s progress and that he credits her miraculous recovery to the staff and physicians at Vibra Hospital.

While recovering, Elizabeth enjoyed being on her tablet and watching two of her favorite cooking shows; Junior Chef and Master Chef. However, she is so happy to be going home, where she can get back to her own great cooking!
